Daybook
Your daily operations board
The Daybook is the page you'll live in every single working day. It shows every dog that is booked in today — whether that's a Daycare session or a Boarding stay in progress. Each dog appears as a card showing their name, breed, owner, service type, and current status. You can check dogs in on arrival, check them out on collection, add daily updates with photos and notes (which get pushed to the client's PupBook), view emergency contacts and vet details, access medical history forms, and complete training assessments — all from one page without navigating away. The Daybook is your single source of truth for "who is on-site right now and what have we done with them today".
How the Daybook works
When you open the Daybook, it automatically loads all confirmed bookings for today's date. Daycare sessions appear with a green left border, Boarding stays with a blue left border.
The summary chips at the top give you an instant count: how many Daycare dogs and how many Boarding dogs are on-site today.
Each booking card shows the dog's avatar (from their profile photo), name, owner name, service type chip, and scheduled times. Boarding cards also show the stay progress (e.g. "Day 3/5").
Click any booking card to expand it. The expanded view reveals full details: client contact info, pet breed and age, booking dates, and all the action buttons.
Check In: When a dog arrives, tap the Check In button. The card updates with a green "Checked In" badge and the exact arrival time is logged. You can edit this time later if you forgot to tap it immediately.
Check Out: When the owner collects their dog, tap Check Out. The departure time is recorded. You can undo a check-out if it was pressed accidentally.
Add Update: This opens the update composer where you type a daily summary of the dog's day — how they ate, played, socialised, any notable behaviour. You can attach photos and videos. Once saved, it gets published to the client's PupBook so they can see it live.
Edit Update: If you've already submitted an update today, the button changes to "Edit Update" so you can revise it throughout the day as things happen.
Emergency & Vet: Tap this to instantly pull up the client's emergency contact details and their registered vet information. Critical for quick access if a dog becomes unwell or injured.
Medical History: Opens the client's submitted medical questionnaire, showing vaccinations, allergies, medications, dietary requirements, and any health conditions — essential reference during the day.
Training Assessment: If the booking includes a training add-on, a purple "Training" badge appears on the card. Tap "Training Assessment" to fill in the day's assessment: session focus, skill ratings (obedience, recall, socialisation etc.), overall rating with stars, and notes for the owner.
All actions save instantly — no page refreshes needed. The Daybook updates in real time as you work through the day.

You open the Daybook in the morning
All today's confirmed bookings load instantly. You see every dog's name, type, scheduled hours, and whether they've been checked in yet. Daycare and Boarding counts appear at the top so you know exactly how many dogs to expect.
A dog arrives and you tap Check In
The card gets a green "Checked In" badge with the exact arrival time (e.g. "09:03"). This is logged permanently for DEFRA compliance — inspectors can ask for check-in/out records and you'll have them automatically.
You add a daily update for a dog
The update composer opens with fields for text, photos, and videos. Once you save, a "Updated" badge appears on the card and the update is pushed to the client's PupBook — they'll see it on their phone.
You tap Emergency & Vet
The emergency contact details and vet information appear in a dialog instantly. If a dog is injured or unwell, you have the vet's phone number and address within two taps — no searching through filing cabinets.
You open Medical History
The client's submitted medical questionnaire loads showing vaccinations, allergies, current medications, dietary needs, and health conditions. Critical for giving correct food and spotting any medical issues during the day.
You complete a Training Assessment
The assessment form opens with skill categories (obedience, recall, lead work, socialisation), star ratings per skill, session focus notes, and an overall rating. Once saved, a purple "Assessed" chip replaces the "Training" chip on the card and the assessment is available in the client's records.
An owner arrives for pickup and you tap Check Out
The departure time is logged and the card shows an orange "Checked Out" badge. The full check-in-to-check-out time window is now recorded for your daily log and compliance records.
You accidentally press Check Out too early
Hit the Undo button next to the Check Out badge. The check-out is reversed, the dog shows as still on-site, and you can check them out again at the correct time.
Pro tips for daybook management
Open the Daybook first thing in the morning before any dogs arrive. Review the list so you know exactly who's coming, what services they're on, and whether anyone has a training session or special dietary needs.
Check dogs in immediately on arrival — even if it's hectic. The timestamps are permanent records. DEFRA inspectors may ask when a specific animal arrived and left. If you forget, you can edit the time later, but it's easier to tap on arrival.
Write updates gradually throughout the day, not all at once at closing. A note after the morning walk, another after lunch, and a final one before pickup gives clients a richer picture and saves you from writing everything from memory.
Use the Emergency & Vet button during induction for new dogs. Verify the contact details are correct by reading them back to the owner at drop-off.
For Boarding dogs, check their Medical History at the start of each day — especially if it's a long stay. Medication schedules, feeding routines, and any ongoing health issues should be reviewed daily.
Training assessments should be completed immediately after the training session while your observations are fresh. Star ratings are subjective — be consistent in what 1-star vs 5-star means across all dogs.
If a dog is on a multi-day Boarding stay, the "Day X/Y" counter helps you track where they are in their visit. Use this to plan activities and ensure each day has variety rather than repeating the same routine.
The Daybook updates list persists across the day. If you refresh the page or lose your connection, the data is saved server-side. No work is lost if your browser crashes.
At end of day, scan through all cards and make sure every dog has been checked out. Any dog still showing "Checked In" at closing time is still technically on-site — this is a safety check for you and a compliance requirement.
Screenshots of the Daybook at the start and end of each day create an automatic visual audit trail. Consider doing this weekly and saving them to your compliance folder.
