What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. "Local storage" and "session storage" are similar browser technologies that allow websites to store data on your device. Under UK PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), all of these are treated the same way.
How We Use Cookies & Storage
MyPetSitter uses strictly necessary cookies and browser storage to make the platform function properly. If — and only if — you choose Accept All in our cookie banner, we also use Google Analytics to see which screens get used. Until you accept, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all. We do not use:
- Any analytics or performance cookies unless you choose Accept All
- Advertising or marketing cookies
- Advertising or cross-site tracking cookies
- Social media tracking pixels
Counting Visits Without Cookies
On our public pages we count which website sent a visit — for example gov.uk or a search engine — without cookies and without storing anything on your device, so it needs no consent and does not appear in the banner. Only the name of the site you came from (such as www.gov.uk) and the public page you landed on are recorded. Your IP address is used for a moment, mixed with a random key that changes every day, to count a browser once per day; we do not store your IP address, and the daily key is deleted after two days. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control send nothing.

These are required for the platform to function and cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take, such as signing in or setting your preferences.

Third-Party Services
We use Google Firebase for authentication and data storage. Firebase may set its own strictly necessary cookies to manage your authenticated session. Google's privacy policy can be found at policies.google.com/privacy.
If you choose Accept All, Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd / Google LLC) sets the analytics cookies listed above. Advertising features are switched off. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site’s storage in your browser, after which the banner will ask you again. No other third-party services that set cookies are used on this platform.
Managing Cookies
Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off without the platform failing to work, particularly signing in to your account. Analytics cookies are off unless you choose Accept All; choosing Essential Only means none are set.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings:

- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions
